The Del and Norma Robison Planetarium is set to receive new projectors this fall, in great part thanks to our donors. This upgrade will make a major difference in the visual impact of the planetarium’s shows. About 30% of the total cost for this upgrade comes from the Foundation. From the beginning, donors have made their mark on this space in several ways. Many purchased a seat in the theater, receiving a plaque bearing their name on the arm of the chair, while larger gifts are represented on plaques in the hallway outside the planetarium featuring their name and giving level. The production suite is also a named space after significant donors, James and Margaret Mudd.
The Robison Planetarium sees about 5,000 visitors each year, including Truman students, K-12 field trips, scout programs, church groups and retirement groups. They run four shows per week, all of which are public, and three of which are completely free to attend. The planetarium is also home to a wide range of other events and programs including include classes, movie screenings, musical events and more. The space is available for student groups to reserve for free. The Robison Planetarium is the only planetarium within 90 miles, making it a stand-out space and opportunity for the Kirksville community and beyond.
All of this is possible in large part due to donors. Without the generosity of alumni and friends, much of what this planetarium offers would not be possible. It is through significant donations that the upcoming upgrades will take place, making the planetarium’s future even brighter.
